When is the best time to move?  The moving industry is very seasonal, and at certain times of the year we are extremely busy. At Jay’s Moving Calgary, we can explain seasonality so that you understand how it will affect your moving experience.

The summer months are our busy season, we operate at peak capacity throughout July and August. Many people want to move during summer because that’s when they have time off, the children are out of school, and the weather is generally conducive to travel.

It’s certainly easier to relocate with children when they are between school years, the disruption of moving is enough stress without the necessity of juggling a new curriculum, new classes, and simply being the new kid in the middle of a school year.

The most important thing to do if you want to move during the busy moving season is – plan ahead! If you leave it until the last minute you are likely to find it difficult to book Jay’s Moving when you need us. We do our best to accommodate clients, but there are only so many trucks and workers to carry out your relocation.

Just as the airlines book seats months ahead of holidays, we book well ahead of the summer months for moving during those peak times. You may be able to secure a better rate if you can book early enough, tariff rates are assessed and adjusted if necessary in late spring. Ask us about it!

If it’s possible for you to move outside of the busy season, it may be worth your while to consider doing so. Not only from a cost perspective, but you will find it easier to book the moving company with less notice because of better availability of both moving trucks and movers!

Shoulder season (spring and early fall) is a good time to plan a move, if you are at all flexible with your move dates. The weather is generally not bad (compared to the dead of winter) and Jay’s Moving Calgary is not quite as busy as during the summer.

Local moves may be able to get a better rate by avoiding month-end, ask your consultant about it!
