Moving electronics requires expertise. Computers, wide screen television sets and music systems are shipments of high value that are also extremely delicate in nature. Make sure your mover has the necessary experience and appropriate supplies to keep your expensive items safe.
Jay’s Moving & Storage in Alberta and Saskatchewan has over 45 years of industry experience. Our customers all over Canada and the United States will tell you that we treat your shipments very carefully.

Before you disconnect your electronics, make a diagram (colour coded if necessary) of wires to make reconnecting them simple and easy. It is also best to store wires, control devices and manuals along with the equipment or in a special box for electronic accessories that can be purchased from your moving service.
Follow these simple steps while preparing to move electronics and you will ensure safe arrival of your shipment:
- Computer: Make backup copies of all your files and store them in your media storage and original program discs in a secure container. Remove ink cartridge from your printer. If your printer is a dot matrix, insert a piece of paper in the platen to secure the print head and disconnect the system. Pack all components, including monitors, scanners, etc. in their original containers or get proper containers from your mover;
- Flat screen television: Ask your mover for special micro foam to keep your plasma and big screen television sets safe. It’s always preferable to pack your television in its original box. However, if you don’t have it, your mover will be able to provide you with an appropriate one. The supplies that are available from your mover are more durable and can prevent damage more effectively;
- Sound system: Pack speakers, receivers and subwoofer carefully. Make sure the equipment fits securely in the box and mark the right side up. If you don’t have the original packing, your mover can provide sturdy containers; and
- Movers are not permitted to take down TV antennas or satellite dishes, but can make the arrangements to have this done for an extra cost.
You don’t buy electronics everyday. Your mover will provide professional packing services and materials to prevent damage of these expensive items and save you the stress of worrying about them during transit. Transit protection plans are an added safety precaution should anything go wrong.
Jay’s Moving & Storage guarantees the safe transportation of your electronics and other household items anywhere in North America through our Replacement Value Transit Protection Plan. Ask us about moving electronics.
